TOWN OF EAST HAMPTON LIFEGUARD PROGRAMS
East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue and Hampton Lifeguard Association provide support to and assist with the Town of East Hampton's Lifeguard programs, which are offered to those as young as 6 years to as old ("young at heart") as 70+ years. Note that due to COVID restrictions, some programs will not be held or will be modified in 2021.
The Nipper program is a modified version of the Junior Lifeguard Program. The program introduces children aged 6 to 8 years to open water safety and awareness.
The Junior Lifeguard Program trains those aged 9 to 14 years in water safety and ocean awareness. Individuals will build their open water swimming skills, gain confidence in the ocean, and learn the skills needed to become a lifeguard when they get older. Our Junior Lifeguards also have the opportunity to compete at local, regional and national lifeguard competitions.
This course is uniquely designed for 15-year-olds who have graduated from the Junior Lifeguard program. This program will PROMOTE beach safety and awareness of local area beaches. EDUCATE young men and women in the role of an ocean lifeguard, and ENCOURAGE both young men and women who one day will pursue a lifeguard certification and return as open water lifeguard to protect others.
