Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of our organization. We've outlined below our expectations of all members, so that you may better understand what is required of you. 

The mission of East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue (EHVOR) is to make expedient and safe water rescues year-round at all unprotected beaches by responding quickly and coordinating with East Hampton Emergency Services. EHVOR is responsible for open water education, water safety and the supervision of permitted water events.

EHVOR is comprised of about 75 volunteers. EHVOR members are first responders, and are dispatched to calls for distressed swimmers and boarders, support of dive team operations, and much more. In addition to calls, there are monthly meeting, drills, trainings, events, and other activities that promote water safety in East Hampton Town.

As a new member you will be classified by the bylaws of EHVOR as one of the following:

RESCUE SWIMMER

  • Must be a year round, full time resident of the Town of East Hampton 

  • Must hold a valid Suffolk County Department of Health Services Surf Level I Open Water Certification or comparable open water certification approved by the Executive Committee

  • CPR/BLS current year

  • Must be an active member and shall be fit and available for duty

  • Yearly must attend at least 40% of regular meetings, 40% of scheduled events, 30% of all drills and 10% of all rescue calls

  • Will be appointed annually by town resolution for liability and insurance purposes.

  • Within in 6 months of joining must complete the following:

NIMS 100, 200, 700 

Online Risk Management Courses (must be completed yearly)

 

SEASONAL RESCUE SWIMMER

  • Must be active from Memorial Day through September 30

  • Must hold a valid Suffolk County Department of Health Services Surf Level I Open Water Certification or comparable open water certification approved by the Executive Committee

  • Yearly must attend 2 scheduled events, 1 meeting, and 10% of Rescue calls

  • Must be actively employed under the Unified Command of EHV, EHT, or NYS as a certified Ocean Lifeguard

  • Must participate in inter-agency drills

  • Must train with employing agency

  • CPR/BLS current year

  • Will be appointed annually by town resolution for liability and insurances purposes

  • Within in 6 months of joining must complete the following classes (can be accomplished by your employing agency with list or certificates handed in by Memorial Day  or completed with EHVOR prior to Executive Committee interview):

NIMS 100, 200, 700 

Online Risk Management Courses (must be completed yearly)

AUXILIARY MEMBER

  • Must be a year round, full time resident of the Town of East Hampton

  • Assists rescue swimmers at events via land and performs other duties including administrative, fundraising, PR, and water safety education

  • Does not hold a valid Suffolk County Department of Health Services Surf Level I Open Water Certification or comparable

  • CPR/BLS current year

  • Must be an active member but cannot respond to rescue calls

  • Yearly must attend at least 40% of regular meetings and 40% of scheduled events 

  • Will be appointed annually by town resolution for liability and insurance purposes

  • Within in 6 months of joining must complete the following:

NIMS 100, 200, 700 

Online Risk Management Courses (must be completed yearly)
