​EHVOR members train regularly in-house and in coordination with other East End emergency agencies to be prepared to respond when called upon. Members are required to hold specific certifications as well as meet participation requirements. If you are ready to join our team, please review the member types and requirements below and scroll down to submit your application. Once submitted, a member will be in touch to go over next steps.

MEMBER TYPES AND REQUIREMENTS

​

RESCUE SWIMMER

​

​Class A Rescue Swimmer

​

Must

  • be at least 18  years old

  • be a year-round, full-time resident of - or work full-time - in the Town of East Hampton

  • hold a current Ocean Lifeguard Surf Level I Open Water Certification accredited by Suffolk County Department of Health Services or New York State

  • renew CPR/BLS certification annually (Red Cross or American Heart Association)

  • attend at least 40% of general monthly meetings, 40% of primary events, 30% of multi-agency drills and respond to 10% of rescue calls

  • complete FEMA’s IS-100,  -200, and  -700 online classes within 3 months of joining  EHVOR

  • complete online Risk Management and Compliance classes (RMCs) annually

 

​Season Rescue Swimmer (Memorial Day through September 30)

 

​Must

  • apply by May 1

  • be 18 years old by June 1 

  • work full-time as an ocean lifeguard within the Town of East Hampton 

  • hold a current Ocean Lifeguard Surf Level I Open Water Certification accredited by Suffolk County Department of Health Services or New York State

  • renew CPR/BLS certification annually (Red Cross or American Heart Association)

  • attend at least 1 general monthly meeting, 2 primary events and respond to 10% of rescue calls

  • complete FEMA’s IS-100,  -200, and  -700 online classes within 3 months of joining  EHVOR

  • complete online Risk Management and Compliance classes (RMCs) annually​

 

Stillwater Rescue Swimmer

Only permitted to actively respond to stillwater calls and to actively participate in stillwater events. Can hold a beach or Command role at ocean rescue calls. 

 

​Must

  • be at least 18  years old

  • be a year-round, full-time resident of - or work full-time - in the Town of East Hampton

  • hold a current Stillwater Lifeguard Certification accredited by Suffolk County Department of Health Services or New York State

  • renew CPR/BLS certification annually (Red Cross or American Heart Association)

  • attend at least 40% of general monthly meetings, 40% of primary events, 30% of multi-agency drills and respond to 10% of rescue calls

  • complete FEMA’s IS-100,  -200, and  -700 online classes within 3 months of joining  EHVOR

  • complete online Risk Management and Compliance classes (RMCs) annually

AUXILIARY MEMBER

Non-lifeguard position that assists at events via land and performs other duties including administrative, fundraising, PR, and/or water safety education

 

​Must

  • be at least 18  years old

  • be a year-round, full-time resident of - or work full-time - in the Town of East Hampton

  • renew CPR/BLS certification annually (Red Cross or American Heart Association)

  • attend at least 40% of general monthly meetings and 40% of primary events

  • complete FEMA’s IS-100,  -200, and  -700 online classes within 3 months of joining  EHVOR

  • complete online Risk Management and Compliance classes (RMCs) annually
