WATERPROOF is the story of a community’s crusade to create a safe swimming environment in East Hampton, New York.
Led by the larger than life, Big John Ryan, and his heroic son, Johnny Jr. These two tenacious watermen are responsible for the creation of East Hampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue, a unique on-call 24/7 year-round team of lifeguards committed to protecting unguarded beaches from Wainscott to Montauk. The 70+ strong dedicated members train rigorously, compete, and most importantly ensure the safety of locals and tourists on the East End of Long Island. WATERPROOF premiered at the Hampton Film Festival 2019 and is currently on the International Film Festival Circuit. It has been nominated for numerous awards and has won Best Short Documentary at Beaufort International Film Festival, The Los Angeles Independent Shorts Award, The Excellence Award at California’s Best Shorts Competition, Best Activism Award and Spirit Award at Toronto Beaches International Film Festival, 2020, to name a few.
